According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the Pacific Clinics, a Pasadena-based behavioral health care agency, and its HOPE drop-in center hosted a wellness and resource fair on Wednesday in Irwindale. This program was put on in order to help out teens in foster care, with mental illness, or who were homeless.
The goal was to provide stability and perhaps employment for youth ages 16 to 25. Volunteers from 20 different service organizations offered everything from job training to dental referrals to HIV and STD testing.
Sam Topete, outreach liaison for the Bill Moore Community Health Clinic in Pasadena, manned a booth in which attendees could receive a free eye test and learn about free health care services available to them. “It’s about helping disadvantaged people,” Topete said. “We’re open to anyone in the San Gabriel Valley area.”
Kelli Courson, HOPE center director, said by mid-morning, about 50 to 60 teens and young adults had already shown up for the fair. Many were regular visitors to the center and other faces were new to the organization.
